Burns from fire are very painful. They occur when getting too close to, or even coming in contact with, fire. The skin can become red, blistery, white leathery appearance, and thickening of the skin. Click here to learn more about burns.

  • Scientific Name: Chamerion angustifolium
  • Family: Onagraceae
  • Habitat: Eastern Deciduous Forest
  • Active Chemical Ingredients: Oenothein A and B
  • Uses: astringent, soothes burns, boils, rashes
  • Preparation: root poultice
Chicory

  • Common Name:  Chicory
  • Scientific Name:  Cichorium intybus
  • Family: Asteraceae
  • Habitat: Tall Grass Prairie/Eastern Deciduous Forest
  • Active Chemical Ingredients: prostaglandin E(2)
  • Uses: Healing agent, anti inflammatory
  • Preparation: Sap rubbed onto affected area
